Here is a review, or more precisely a recommendation, which I just posted on Book Bub and Facebook for Flannery O'Connor's second novel, which I think was her best, The Violent Bear It Away.
It's one of the few novels I've read in which none of the characters is likeable. Even in Wise Blood, O'Connor's first novel, I found the character of Enoch to be engaging, odd but amiable. Here, there is none of that. Everyone pursues a dark vision, but yet in the end the prophetic character of the story is fulfilled in a satisfying and deeply moving way. It's like life. Are any of us really likeable, and yet we move forward?
